#### **King Haldrek the Stern (2750 - 2890 S.A.)**
**Titles:** High Thane of Baltun’ia, Keeper of the Iron Laws
**Notable Achievements:** Codified the Iron Laws, Expanded the [[Automatons|Automaton]] Legions
As [[King Rangrim the Unyielding|Rangrim]]’s successor, King Haldrek ruled with an iron fist, ensuring that the empire remained strong after his predecessor’s passing. He was the architect of the Iron Laws, a set of rigid decrees that dictated trade, labor, and military conscription for all non-dwarven peoples.
- Crushed early uprisings with brutal efficiency, deploying automatons as enforcers for the first time.
- Expanded the Deep Roads, creating a network of fortified checkpoints to monitor movement across the empire.
- Imposed heavy tribute on non-dwarven settlements, leading to growing discontent.
By the time of his death, resentment toward dwarven rule was widespread, though few openly defied the empire yet.
