# Look Up Lore

First read `.claude/skills/_shared/vault-conventions.md` for the vault map.

## Steps

1. **Search broadly, then narrow.** Grep the vault for the entities and terms in
   the question. Check the obvious home folder (Factions, Species, Deities,
   Regions, History) **and** the Session Recaps — what happened *in play* often
   matters as much as the written lore.

2. **Synthesize across notes.** Combine the canonical note, related notes, and
   any recap appearances into one coherent answer. Resolve the question using
   only what the vault actually says.

3. **Cite.** Reference the source note(s) by clickable path
   (`2. World Almanac/Factions/Belters/Belter Overview.md`) so the DM can jump
   to the source. When the answer comes partly from play, cite the recap.

4. **Be honest about gaps.** If the vault doesn't establish something, say so
   plainly — distinguish "the notes say X" from "the notes don't cover this; a
   reasonable read would be Y." Never present invention as established canon.

5. **Offer next steps** when useful — e.g. "this NPC has no note yet; want me to
   create one?" (create-npc) or "the Belter/Vexen rivalry isn't written down
   centrally; want me to add it to Faction Relationships?"
