Welcome to the world of Baltun'ia travelers! We opened things up at the Bell Heart Tavern where we met Thornton, the bard and tavern keeper. After reciting a tale on the history of Baltun'ia and Rangrim's conquest he asked two simple questions to you:
**What songs will be sung of you, travelers of Baltun’ia?**
**What legends will bear your names?**
Sitting at the bar, we met Janos, 6, and Saif who just so happened to be listening to the tale all together. After a short dialogue and get to know you chat, the three travelers learned some information about the city of Voxiu. Notably for Saif and 6, that the Library could be a good source of information if it is knowledge that you seek. For Janos, the suggestion was to inquire at the nearby markets for "vacation hot spots" and insider knowledge about the city's excursions.
After learning the Library was closed for the day, the three of you decided to peruse the local wares at the market. The bustling square offered a few intriguing items that caught your attention including a meaty bulb of Aspric comprised of a mixture of hearty items enjoyed by Janos and a truth serum potion collected by Saif.
While at the market, a commotion occurred between a young boy named Scout and the butcher on the end stall who accused Scout of stealing 2 sausage links. 6 and Saif successfully diffused the situation through some discussion and settled the debt owed to the butcher with a lucky coin toss. After the altercation was finished, Saif noticed a slight tug on her belt and a small creature running off into the shadows of the market stalls. A note was left behind: Passed Note
The group followed the directions of the note and sought out a creature named Odatina at the guild hall square. After meeting Odatina, a small rock gnome, the group followed Odatina to the headquarters of her guild to sign up for a job that promised a good amount of pay.
When meeting with the guild master, the group was allowed to choose from a group of four dockets. The one they chose named an individual, Lancer McPinndePott, as a target that was "in need of disposing". The Director at the Bottom Leaf Theater has racked up several outstanding debts and has even been accused of trafficking young actors to other regions across Baltun'ia. The party has been asked to deal with the situation and bring back a trophy as proof for payment. Your silence is appreciated.
Upon accepting the task, we closed out the first session of our campaign!

Free of the train at last, the party found themselves crouched between the cattle cars and the station wall of _Brefield_, the shrunken dragon they had rescued blinking up at them. With little time and fewer options, they improvised a disguise, a leash looped about the dragon's neck and the confident air of travelers walking a peculiar pet, and set off through the streets toward an inn called _the Splintered Snake_.
At the Splintered Snake the party negotiated lodging for their unusual companion, paying twenty gold as a deposit and five gold a night to keep _Tir'nael_ in their room. _Odatina_ put her name to a document accepting responsibility for whatever damage the dragon might cause. It was only later that they thought the matter through: as Tir'nael grew and the reducing magic holding him small wore off, he might well tear the room apart around them. Thinking better of the arrangement, they moved the dragon out to the stables behind the inn.
With Tir'nael settled, the party made their way to _Hyperion Hall_ to seek an audience with _Kevana_, leader of the _Hyperions_. There they learned a troubling truth: that _the Spade_, the House of Suits' silent enforcer, was an _Oilblood_, one of those who has merged with the essence and parts of a slain automaton. Kevana counseled caution, urging the party to keep their distance from _Commander Taylor_ until they could learn more, and admitting that even she could not say whether the rumors of Taylor himself being an Oilblood held any truth.
As the conversation deepened, the party began to connect threads they had carried for some time, drawing a line between the flooded mine Taylor had once sent them to investigate and _the Collapsed Reach_. Sharing what they had pieced together seemed to settle something in Kevana. She judged that the time had come at last to tell them the truth about Commander Taylor, and it was there, on the edge of that revelation, that the evening came to a close.

The party journeyed to the Bottom Leaf Theater where Lancer McPinndepott greeted them at the entrance. He presumed the party was the requested investigators sent to the theater to look into the disappearances being experienced. Lancer told the party he was aware of 3 missing individuals over the past few months. He has given the party free reign of the Theater to perform the necessary investigations and decipher the reasoning behind the missing stage folk. The group discussed these matters in McPinndepott's office where Saif was able to pick up on a slight magical disturbance emanating from somewhere in the Theater, however, she was not able to pin point what or where.
After the meeting with Lancer, the party decided to head down to the main stage room where they encountered Joff and Abigail, two actors from the upcoming play. Joff acosted the group and stormed out after spewing racial hate towards 6. Abigail talked with the party in regards to the disappearances describing 4 people that she could think of in the past months. She seems to think that McPinndepott is a pretty decent guy and is unsure why he would have only mention 3 missing persons. She believes there is another that is more at fault than Lancer in regards to the disappearances, Cindry.
The party also met a lowly stagehand/janitor named Dwingle. He is as ancient as the Theater and was quite reluctant to bring the party to the basement. After some poking and prodding, the party discovered Dwingle likes to dabble in delicacies of the night and promised to bring them down once his visitor was vacated from the premises. He shares insight into McPinndepott and Cindry stating they are having an affair of sorts. He believes that Cindry is somehow connected to this disappearance business and shares that odd things have been occurring since her arrival to the Theater.
The party left Dwingle in search of Cindry in the upstairs hallway. When they met, the party pressed her on her relationship with McPinndepott and the missing persons. She told them that she has been taking private acting lessons and has been seeing Lancer on the side as well. She willingly shows the party a few documents demonstrating some outstanding debts of McPinndepott's. She also states that there was an agreement made to settle these debts through the collection of "bodies" in exchange for 25,000 gold pieces to be removed from the ledger.
At the end of our session, the party was investigating the authenticity of the debt documents provided by Cindry. Saif needs to make another investigation check to determine the outcome.

We started off with an investigation of the documents Cindry provided about McPinndepott's debts. They described an agreement for bodies in exchange for gold to be removed from the total balance owed. The document was taken by Janos for further inquiry and was addressed to Lancer by an entity known as the Benton Brothers, established bankers in Voxiu. The party questioned Cindry a bit more into the ongoings at the theater before leaving. Six took three books, a kazoo, and a golden knife from the table in Cindry's quarters which seemed to be of magical origin. After completing discussions at the theater, the party moved back to the Bell Heart Tavern to discuss tings in more detail.
The books were found to be called Stasky the Great, Tales of Time and the Timeless, and Gorgons and Prophets. It was also found out that playing certain songs on the golden kazoo taken from the room causes images to appear from the books open pages.

Starting from the Bell Heart Tavern, the party spent awhile discussing various options to dispose of McPinndepott. It was decided that poison would do the trick! Saif recalled a brew of Assassin's Blood using old blood, nightshade leaves, and spices to sufficiently kill a person who consumes it. After procuring a vessel to contain it, a quick venture to the market allowed the group to collect the necessary ingredients to brew. In the back room of the tavern, the potion was made and a small piece of cheese was used to test the efficacy on a small rodent creature. After a nights rest, the party awoke to a dead moouse hanging out of the wall with it's mouth still stuffed full of poisoned cheese. The group set out to the theater in hopes of killing Lancer.
At the theater, the party made its way to the office of McPinndepott only to discover Cindry tied up in the corner. Once freed, Cindry sprinted down towards the main theater motioning the party to follow her. Cindry moved to the front of the stage and began speaking in a foreign tongue to all but Janos awakening a sleeping beast on the stage. A mimic! The battle has begun!

The battle with the stage mimic ensues! After a short battle the party was able to defeat Cindry and the stage mimic without too much trouble. Upon defeating the beast several items were regurgitated from its stomach including Lancer McPinndepott. He tells the party he was coaxed by Cindry to come to the stage for an impromptu acting lesson. Once there, Cindry began speaking an infernal language and the mimic awoke. He was then gobbled up and the next thing he romembered was seeing the party and being covered in gunk. Lancer also recognized the bodies of the missing persons he had asked to investigate, unfortunate victims of the mimics digestive tract.
While discussing matters with Lancer, Odatina collected a piece of Cindry's ear and hair, just in case. Janos searched through the mimic and Cindry's remains finding a wooden ring, a golden necklace with an eye glass on it, and an orange vial which he safely stored away. On Cindry's body there was a note written by her parents reading:
Dear Cindry,
We miss you very much and are looking forward to spending time together soon! We have sent you your pet, just as you requested, hopefully he will give you some company while you are out in the city! Take care of him he has quite the appetite! Can't wait to spend some time together soon.

The party pressed Lancer a bit more and again he reiterated the same story and pleading the party to allow him the chance to introduce them to his contact. Moving up to Lancer's office, he was able to clean himself off, provide 150 gold pieces to Six, and again ask the party to meet with Commander Taylor who could use the talents of individuals such as yourselves. The party has agreed and will be taken to Taylor in the afternoon. The party has told Lancer they will hang around the theater until it is time to leave.

Starting off in McPinndepott's office the party continued a small discussion. Lancer told the party again he would set up the meeting with Commander Taylor and proceeded to put that plan in action.
The party stayed behind at the theater to investigate a few loose ends including McPinn's office space and the basement occupied by Dwingle.
While the party was exploring the theater, Odatina ran back to the Assassins Guild to explain the situation and collect on the amount owed. The guild master thanked her for her honesty and has promised to relayy the information back to the necessary parties. A pouch of gold was given in payment for the information and the pieces of Cindry that were collected. Afterwards, Odatina ran back to the theater and met the party in the basement.
In the basement of the theater, the party encountered several rooms filled with old props from previous productions. Dwingle's domicile was also discovered with Dwingle cowering next to his bed. He explained he encountered the mimic on the stage after hearing some strange sounds from above. He watched as McPinndepott was eaten alive and then cowered down here in his room. He seemed to be quite traumatized over the situation and after some rounds of questioning decided to lay down for a nap.
After finishing the basement spelunking the party moved back upstairs to meet McPinndepott and head towards their meeting. Along the way, a political rally was growing in the street. A man named _Hofta Baldwin_ presented a speech to the crowd urging them to vote for him during the Crown Elect election upcoming. Most of the language was centered around anti-automaton ideology and anti-Vexen messaging. He noted an opponent on the Vexen side named, _Frederich Von Hesten_.
Eventually, the party made their way to Commander Taylor's home which was a large manor towering in stature and broad in width compared to the surrounding mansions. Upon entering, the butler proceeded to show them the way to Taylor's sitting room. Taylor and Lancer exchanged a few negative words and afterwards Lancer was excused from the meeting. Upon his exit Taylor sprang into action and began fighting the party.
After the fight was diffused, Taylor asked the party to sit and chat for awhile about various ideas and thoughts on Baltun'ia.

After arriving at _Commander Taylor_'s manor, the party sat down with him to discuss a potential business opportunity. Taylor asked whether they would be willing to help throw the upcoming Crown Elect election in favor of the _Vexens_ to defeat the _Belters_, laying out his reasons and a potential reward should they agree. The party decided to help, and set about learning more of the rift between the Belters and the Vexens. They spoke with a handful of individuals and learned of several locations, among them the _Colonnaded Halls_. It was here that they met _Vezra_, whom Saif would later take on a date. Eventually they made their way to the casino, where they held conversations with a number of its patrons and met some interesting folk.
While in the casino, the party descended into the basement and found a series of halls and doors they struggled to get through. Below they turned up various pieces of treasure, some armor, and other odd bits and bobs, and in one of the back rooms a series of chests full of what appeared to be forged votes cast in favor of the Belters. They resolved to burn the lot, gathered as much as they could carry, and made for the exit. On their way out they met a small automaton named _Oils_, whom they decided to smuggle out of the casino, believing that, with the forged votes destroyed, the election would swing their way. A few other matters were settled in the casino besides, but in the end the party managed to destroy the votes, take their loot, and get Oils safely out.
The party secured several thousand gold pieces and carried the coin out into the city, bribing citizens to vote in favor of the Vexens. They spent well over 5,000 gold in the effort, yet in the end _Hofta Baldwin_ won the election all the same. The party retreated to Commander Taylor's manor to discuss the outcome with him.
In their talk, Taylor told them of a flooded mine in a town outside _Brefield_, one in which he held some interest, and asked the party to investigate why it was flooding and ultimately to protect it. Having accepted the new job, they visited _Sivra_'s magic shop to inquire about Six's operation; there they were able to ask a few pointed questions and turn up some information unique to _Six_ in particular, which they shared with Sivra at the end of it. They boarded a train bound for _Brefield_, where they met _Koss Kelsey_, a man searching for his son, who had not returned from the mines in over a year. Koss offered the party some gold and a discount on his wares, and told them he would be staying at the _Blighted Night Tavern_ should they wish to find him. Stepping off the train, the crew wandered _Brefield_ a while, found a tavern by the name of the _Splintered Snake_, and rented two rooms. There they met an automaton-looking individual named _Voltain_ sitting at the bar, from whom they learned that the automatons were being rounded up in _Voxiu_ and were awaiting deportation. Six also did a little shopping, arranging to have their plating upgraded. The party then decided to press on immediately to _Mantle's Cradle_, and walked several hours to reach it.
At Mantle's Cradle they met with several union members among the miners and gained more information regarding Koss Kelsey's request. While returning to _Brefield_, the party encountered two strange hooded figures who shared strange visions with them before disappearing into the distance.
Upon returning to town they were set upon by a group of bounty hunters, who were easily disposed of. The party did some small shopping for wares and then met a gathering of automatons at _Hyperion Hall_. Six shared their story with the rest of the automatons, who sat in disbelief. There the party learned of the _Oilbloods_, individuals who have merged with the essence and parts of a slain automaton, and came to believe, on the strength of a rumor, that Commander Taylor may be one of them. _Kevana_, the leader of the _Hyperions_, asked to speak with Six the following evening back at Hyperion Hall. The party then left to finish speaking with Koss Kelsey and to rest.

The party's journey began with their encounter with Koss Kelsey, who insisted on speaking to his child without assistance. Respecting his wishes, they allowed him to depart alone. Upon returning to the bustling city of Breathfield, the adventurers sought information regarding travel options and discovered a zeppelin station atop a hill in the center of town, alongside potential vehicles for overland travel.
Their next destination was the Splintered Snake to meet Etmir. However, upon questioning him, they quickly realized that this was not the Etmir they knew. The confrontation escalated, leading to the false Etmir, later identified as Vezra, melting into a silvery liquid and escaping. In the aftermath, Odatina collected remnants of the encounter, and the party recovered personal items, including a key to Vezra's rented room.
Using the key, the party accessed the rented room, finding it eerily empty yet seemingly prepared for the occupant's return. A fire crackled in the fireplace, and various personal items cluttered the space. Janos discovered a letter addressed to "V," which contained cryptic instructions and warnings, including references to a flooded mine and a figure named Hales. The group deduced that they were likely the "contractors" mentioned in the note and focused on the location referred to as The Reach.
As they searched the room, Odatina examined a travel case, uncovering a false bottom that revealed two rolled papers and a wired device connected to a vial of green liquid. When the false bottom was opened, the device triggered, spilling the liquid and igniting the contents. Odatina snatched one of the documents from the flames, which turned out to be a Map Of The Brefield Region, marking several sites, including The Reach. The party recognized its significance, linking it to a previous hand-drawn map they had received from Commander Taylor regarding the flooded mine.
After deliberating their next steps, the party decided to pursue Janos's lead about Oils in Cafford before addressing other matters. They left the room and made their way to the train station, where Janos purchased tickets to Cafford. As they traveled, they reflected on Cafford's reputation as a major trade hub and former dwarven fortress, known for its military activity and vibrant festivities.
Upon arriving in Cafford, the party was struck by the city's size and energy, filled with statues and bustling crowds. Janos inquired about an automaton neighborhood and learned that automatons frequented a tavern called the Pigskin. He specifically sought a small automaton named Oils, but the guard could not provide further details. The party then visited the station's information office, where Odatina attempted to gather more information but inadvertently triggered a siren, leading to a confrontation with a Gnome Clerk. Despite the tension, the situation was defused, and the party was allowed to leave without further incident.
As they traversed Cafford, they passed notable landmarks, including the grand central arena and the Vault Singers’ church, before arriving at the Pigskin tavern. Inside, the atmosphere was lively, filled with a mix of automatons, dwarves, and humans. Six spotted an automaton seated at a reserved table and approached, seeking assistance in locating Oils. After a brief exchange with a dismissive dwarf, the automaton at the table invited Six to sit and offered to help. Upon learning of Six's intentions regarding Oils, the automaton assured him that Oils was currently employed at the tavern and agreed to check on his reaction before facilitating a meeting.

In the dimly lit Pigskin, the party gathered around a table as Karen's subordinates delivered _Oils_ to them. After confirming to _Karen_ that these were indeed the ones who had aided his escape from the Casino, the little automaton drew close to Janos and, in a low voice, revealed that he believed he had found what Janos had been searching for. Karen, ever the accommodating host, offered the group the tavern's back room so that the matter could be discussed in private. Once the door was shut behind them, the party expressed their concern for Oils and apologized that they had been unable to save his friend. Oils admitted that conditions had proven far worse than any of them had anticipated — but he had, all the same, completed the task Janos had set for him.
From among his effects Oils produced an observer's plate and laid out what it had recorded: the _Ashfall_ Squad's mission had successfully reached the mountains, entering through a cave mouth connected to the Mines. What troubled him was what came next — the Mine had been reported flooded the very following day, a coincidence he found far too tidy to trust, and he warned that Janos's companions might well be trapped somewhere within. Using the party's map, he pointed out the precise cave entrance the Ashfall had used to slip inside. It was here that Janos finally admitted aloud what he had been chasing all this time: former army companions from the Ashfall who had vanished in the middle of an investigation. The group set Oils's account beside the flooding they had already been looking into and reached an uneasy conclusion — the repeated flooding was no accident at all, but deliberate.
Curious, Odatina asked whether "the Reach" meant anything to him. Oils recalled hearing Casino figures throw the term around, and to his ear it had always sounded less like a place than an objective. He remembered too that _Cassian_ had spoken of the Reach often, describing how he had been made to wait on private meetings at the Casino, where he had watched maps being pored over. One meeting in particular stuck with him: several distinct groups dividing sections of land across a map, with _the Spade_ standing silent watch over them all. When Odatina described Commander Taylor, Oils confirmed that a man fitting that very description had been present at the meeting.
Piece by piece it came together. Odatina and Saif linked the note about "diggers" and the Reach "going quiet" to the miners and the flooding of the Mine, and the party resolved that the Mine itself demanded a closer look. Janos offered up more of what he knew of the Ashfall: the squad had been sent to the southern edge of the Talar Plains to investigate magical disturbances that had only grown more dangerous, until contact was lost entirely. When Janos pressed him for any further thread to pull, Oils gave up a name — _Felix Tanner_ — cautioning that Felix kept dangerous company and an even lower profile, and asking that they never breathe a word that the tip had come from him.
The group then showed Oils the Ring they had taken from the vault. He turned it over and studied it with his stone slate, and after a quiet moment handed it back, saying only that it was bound to a figure of real historical weight. The name meant nothing to most of them, but Saif recognized it at once as that of _the Explorer_ — a renowned name in _Faken_ history, tied to ancient relics of the old world. Oils explained that the stone slate itself was a rare and precious thing, a device that could store away information and memories. Asked what he meant to do now, he said he would remain in Caford; Karen had given him a room at the Pigskin, though he confessed he had already given most of his coin away. Odatina gently urged him to keep what was left for himself, and he agreed.
As the conversation wound down, Janos found himself picturing Felix Tanner — an older, haggard man sheltering in something crude and makeshift — and, drawing on what he had glimpsed of Oils's thoughts, fixed on the location of the man's hideout: tucked away behind the Vault Singers' Church. The party parted from Oils on warm terms, wishing him well. Out in the street, Janos shared what he had pieced together and put it to the others that Felix Tanner might be their next best source on both the Ashfall and the floods. Odatina insisted they do nothing that might expose Oils as their informant, and Six suggested they present themselves as representatives of the Church.
With time pressing, Six asked the bartender about catching a train back toward Brefield, but the man had nothing useful to offer. So the party made instead for the nearby Vault Singers' Church. Circling around to the rear of the building, Janos recognized the loose, removable fence slat exactly as he had seen it in Oils's mind. Peering through the gap, they made out a dark shelter of stacked boxes and heaped blankets — but before they could step through, a voice out of the darkness ordered them to stop, promising violence if they came any closer.
Janos called back that they had come from the Church, having heard that someone here might be in need of help. The hidden speaker drew a long sniff of the air, declared that one of them was a gnome, and repeated the threat. Six, meanwhile, felt the pull of something arcane: strong warding magic wrapped the whole of the Church, and beneath it a distinct necromantic pulse throbbed from within. Deciding the threat behind the fence was not worth forcing, the party withdrew and came back around to the front doors. Inside they found no sanctuary in any ordinary sense — instead a hushed, library-like hall of desks and crowded shelves, tended by black-robed attendants who regarded the newcomers with complete indifference.

The party entered the front entryway of the Vault Singers' Church in Cafford, surrounded by a library-like interior filled with desks, bookshelves, and hooded black-robed clergy. The atmosphere was thick with magical energy, though Six noted no signs of the darker necromantic presence they had sensed earlier. Janos approached a black-robed clerk for assistance, but the clerk pointed him toward a more brightly dressed Yellow-And-Green-Dressed Representative, who welcomed the group and explained the Vault Singers' mission to catalog and control magical knowledge and artifacts.
During their conversation, the Representative inquired about any disturbances the party might have experienced with their magical abilities. Odatina asked about the Representative's unusual attire, learning that he had not yet completed his training. The Representative explained that the other clergy members remained voiceless to outsiders, devoted to their studies. Janos described a previous unsettling encounter with two black-robed clergy, prompting the Representative to identify them as Ray and Dennis, who had been sent to retrieve a magical artifact. When Janos mentioned Felix Tanner, the Representative stiffened and refused to discuss the matter further, warning that those who crossed Felix Tanner's boundary ceased to exist.
With little more to gain, Six thanked the Representative, who requested that they bring any unknown magic they might encounter in the future. Odatina dismissed the request, and the party decided to leave The Church, hurrying back to Brefield Train Station for their journey to Brefield. Upon arrival, they learned that only cattle-class tickets were available, which they purchased before boarding the train. As they settled into a dark Hay-Lined Stock Car, they noticed handlers loading various animals, including a dangerous creature and an unknown one that piqued their curiosity.

Inside the hay-lined car, the party discovered two large, sleeping creatures. As the train departed, they observed the creatures closely, noting their elongated necks and bright yellow eyes. Six approached one of the creatures, which resembled a dragon but bore signs of severe injury. Saif communed with the creature, sensing its pain and fear, and confirmed it was indeed a dragon. The creature pleaded for help, prompting Janos to offer a Greater Healing Potion he had been carrying. Saif poured the potion into The Second Dragon's mouth, and after drinking, the creature revealed its injuries more clearly, including missing wings and infected wounds.

As the train approached Brefield, the party debated their next steps. Second Dragon expressed a desire to return home to the volcanic mountains, revealing that Second Dragon had already perished. Hearing workers unloading adjacent cars, the party realized they had a brief opportunity to act. Janos attempted to open the locked stock-car door but found it secured from the outside. Six used Mage Hand to manipulate the lock, but it did not yield. Noticing a roof hatch, Janos climbed onto Six's shoulders to reach it, forcing it open.

With Second Dragon still too large to fit through, Saif and Six used reducing magic to shrink it down to a manageable size. Janos climbed out first, ensuring the roof was clear before pulling Saif and Odatina up. They then worked together to lift Second Dragon onto the roof, but when Six attempted to join them, Janos lost his grip, causing Six to fall back into the Stock Car. Meanwhile, Odatina used her thieves’ tools to successfully unlock Stock Car door, allowing Six to rejoin the group outside, where they now stood hidden between the train and the station wall with the freed dragon.
