name: session-prep
description: Assemble a DM prep brief for the next Baltun'ia session — pulls together the NPCs, POIs, factions, threats, and dangling plot hooks relevant to where the party currently is, with quick-reference stats and ready-to-use hooks. Use when the DM says "help me prep", "what do I need for next session", "the party is heading to X — get me ready", or before a game.

# Prepare for the Next Session
First read `.claude/skills/_shared/vault-conventions.md`.
## Steps
1. **Locate the party.** Read the most recent recap in `3. Session Recaps/` and
`z_other/Campaign Flow.md` to find where the party is, what they just did,
and what's unresolved. Ask the DM where they're likely to go next if it's open.
2. **Gather the relevant slice of the world.** For the current/expected
location, collect: the city/region note, the POIs there, the NPCs filed in
those POIs, and the factions active in the area. Pull open threads (debts,
promises, enemies made, unanswered questions) from recent recaps and the
Campaign Flow.
3. **Surface the live tensions.** Tie the local situation to the campaign's
through-lines (the Crown Elect election, automaton rights, the ley-line
conspiracy from the Campaign Premise).
4. **Produce a prep brief** (output in chat — do not write a vault note unless
asked) with these sections:
- **Where we left off** — 2–3 sentences.
- **Likely scenes / locations** — each POI with a one-line vibe + link.
- **NPCs in play** — name, role, voice cue, what they want, their secret/hook.
- **Factions & agendas** — who's maneuvering and how.
- **Open hooks & threats** — dangling threads the party can pull, plus
possible complications.
- **Loose ends to decide** — questions only the DM can answer, asked directly.
5. **Offer follow-ups** — e.g. stat a missing NPC (create-npc), flesh out a POI
the party may visit (create-poi), or draft an in-world document for a handout.
